This deposit is located on state land.
Location: This site represents beach placer deposits on the shore of Bristol Bay extending 3 miles to the southwest and 12 miles to the northeast of Ilnik Lake.
Geology: The Ilnik beach deposit is a long spit bordering low-lying shallow swamps and mudflats. The mile-wide spit is capped by extensive dunes. The sediment is generally sand or loose gravel. Thin surface veneers of magnetite and ilmenite occur along the strand line as surf and wind concentrates. Berryhill (1963) collected samples from 25 auger holes along approximately 15 miles of beach. Concentrates of this material contained 2.5 to 57.4 pounds of iron and 0.6 to 11.5 pounds of titanium per cubic yard in the magnetic fraction. In the non-magnetic fraction the concentrates contained 0 to 2.1 pounds of titanium per cubic yard.
Workings: Twenty-five auger holes were drilled and the resulting samples were concentrated and analysed for iron and titanium. The magnetic fraction contained 2.5 to 57.4 pounds of iron and 0.6 to 11.5 pounds of titanium per cubic yard. The non-magmetic fraction contained 0 to 2.1 pounds titanium per cubic yard.
Age: Quaternary.
