Location: Best location in literature is that placer gold occurs in T. 9 S, R. 10 W., of the Copper River Meridian. Could include various deposits of alluvial gravel on the slopes of Great Nunatak.
Geology: Placer gold is present in Quaternary alluvial gravels. The bedrock in the area is monotonous sequences of thin- to thick-bedded sandstone, siltstone, and mudstone of the Eocene and Paleocene Orca Group. Primary sedimentary features indicate deposition by turbidity currents (Winkler, 1992). A 0.1 cubic yard sample contained 0.0005 oz Au/cubic yard (Jansons and others, 1984).
Workings: A 0.1 cubic yard sample contained 0.0005 oz Au/cubic yard, indicating a low mineral development potential (Jansons and others, 1984).
