Location: Ryan Creek is a small creek that flow south to its mouth on Norton Sound, 1.5 miles west of Bluff. This is locality 105 of Cobb (1972, MF 445; 1978, OF 78-181).
Geology: Some placer gold mining took place on Ryan Creek before 1907 (Collier and others, 1908). However, only a few small placer pits are present on the creek and probably less than 100 ounces of gold were produced (Mulligan, 1971). Bedrock in the area is Paleozoic marble wioth some intercalated metasedimentary schist as on Daniels Creek, 1.5 miles to the east. Sinkholes are developed in the marble (Mulligan, 1971). Panned concentrates from the creek and overburden above bedrock schist did not contain gold (Mulligan, 1971).
Workings: A few small placer pits are present on the creek.
Age: Quaternary; any placer deposits here are at low enough elevation, 50 to 100 feet, to have been influenced by Quaternary sea level fluctuations.
Production: Based on the extent of the placer workings, Mulligan (1971) estimates that less than 100 ounces of gold were produced.
