Location: Occurrences of placer gold and cinnabar are present in a several-square-mile area in uplands at the south end of the Lyman Hills and north of the Gagaryah River (Eppinger, 1993). The map site is at an elevation of 1,300 feet on a south-flowing tributary to the Gagaryah River in the SW1/4 section 4, T 18 N, R 32 W, of the Seward Meridian. The map site is chosen to represent the general area of gold and cinnabar occurrences.
Geology: Pan concentrates from several drainages in this area contain detrital gold and cinnabar (Eppinger, 1993). Bedrock in the area is dominantly Paleozoic sedimentary rocks (Eppinger, 1993).
Age: Quaternary.
