Location: The Blue Lode prospect is at an elevation of about 4,200 feet on the south, valley wall of the Middle Fork, Iron Creek, 0.6 mile northeast of the top of hill 5066. The prospect is in the NE1/4SE1/4 sec. 15, T. 26 N., R. 2 E., Seward Meridian. The location is accurate to within 1/4 mile. This is locality 73 of Csejtey and Miller (1978).
Geology: The Blue Lode prospect consists of chalcopyrite and bornite disseminated in Triassic, Nikolai Greenstone(?) (Schmidt and others, 2002). Outcrops on a cliff show conspicuous malachite and azurite staining. A 2-foot-wide shear zone strikes N16E and dips steeply to the west; it contains some chalcopyrite-bearing quartz (Capps, 1919 [B 692]). Samples collected by the U.S. Bureau of Mines contain up to 70,000 parts per million copper and 44 parts per million silver (Fechner, 1986).

As of January 1, 2000, Cominco held a block of approximately 25 state claims covering this and adjacent prospects (Northern Associates Inc., written commun., 2001).
Age: Occurs in Triassic Nikolai Greenstone.
Alteration: Oxidation of copper minerals.
