Location: The Beltz prospect is at an elevation of about 1,000 feet on the ridge about 0.6 miles west-northwest of the junction of Split and Bear Creeks. The map site is in section 23, T. 2 N., R. 12 W., of the Kateel River Meridian.
Geology: Bedrock at the Beltz prospect is mainly altered, Jurassic-Cretaceous andesitic tuff and greenstone cut by mafic and felsic dikes. Quartz and calcite veins carry disseminated chalcopyrite. The rocks are iron- and copper-stained (Harrington, 1919).
Workings: The deposit has been prospected by ten or more small pits. In 1917, the pits were badly caved and filled with slope talus (Harrington, 1919). The site was visited by Herreid (1965), who reports a trench 80 feet long and 3 to 5 feet deep.
Age: Jurassic-Cretaceous or younger.
Alteration: Local iron- and copper-staining.
