A roll-front uranium deposit discovered in 1980. Owned by Cameco Resources Inc., the Crow Butte Mine was the first uranium mine in Nebraska. It began operation in 1991 and recovered about 11.8 million pounds of U3O8 from tuffaceous, pyritic sandstones in the Oligocene Chadron Formation, until the company curtailed operations in 2016.
