A former Au-Ag-Zn mine.
Deposit: Cale donia claim resulted from consolidation of seven claims in 1866. Resumed work in 1869 - ore was found, and work continued until 1873. Continued exploration revealed scattered boddies of low-grade ore through the late 1890's. Some good ore ($91/ton) was found in 1902, but most production through the early 1900's was from relatively low-grade ore. Deposit type: Epithermal vein, Comstock
Development: The caledonia claim from consolidation of seven claims in 1861 by caledonia tunnel company. Ore was hit assaying up to $50 ton but economic condition forced closure in 1866. Work was resumed in 1869; ore was found and production continued until 1873. Continued exploration revealed scattered bodies of low grade ore through the late 1890's. Some good ore($91/ton) was found in 1902, but most production through the early 1900's was from relatively low grade ore. The mine's currently off the south end of houston oil & minerals' open pit operation
