Cave di Gesso, Murisengo, Alessandria, Piedmont, Italia
A few gypsum quarries to the south-est of Murisengo. The oldest is now closed and converted into archeo-industrial park. Still working is the San Pietro (San Pietro-Prato Nuovo) underground quarry.
Large lenticular and flattened prismatic crystals of gypsum are typical at San Pietro-Prato Nuovo quarry. Here, in 1994, remarkable sword-shaped crystals, more than 1 m in length, were recovered from a large pocket evidenced by quarrying operations at a depth of 70 m.
