The exact locality is not precisely known, however, it is likely is near Twertup Creek, a tributary of the Fitzgerald River.

The reference (Birch et al. 2002) describes the discovery of "Mendozavilite", later showed by Kampf et al. (2012) to corresponds to melkovite, after the new nomenclature of the Betpakdalite Supergroup. Noted on material held by Museum Victoria. The specimens were donated to the museum in 1958, from the estate of Dr George B. Pritchard, who collected them in 1921 from what is now the Fitzgerald River National Park.

Description: The EMPA analysis given for the mineral described by Birch et al.
