A former small surface and underground W-Ag-Cu-Au-Fluorspar mine located in sec. 24, T17S, R6E, about 1 mile NW of San Juan Spring. Discovered 1953 by Walter N. and Eugene D. Calvert; Vance J. and William S. Brown. Produced 1954-1955.

Mineralization is in a shear zone. The ore body occurs in a narrow fracture striking N10W and dipping 70E. Rock is altered and friable and contains coatings of copper oxides.

The scheelite zone assayed 0.056% & 0.021% WO3. Owner reported assays of 0.12 oz. Au/t and 8.4 oz. Ag/t plus 13.05% Cu.

Bulldozer stripping obliterated the mineralized outcrop on Independence No. 1; all data is for Independence No. 2. Workings include a shaft, drift, and open cut. Workings are 3.66 meters deep.
