A zinc mine located West of Fairview. Started during WWI and closed in the late 1920's. Ore is in mineralized Everton, Powell & Cotter Dolomites.
Deposit: The main vein was described As running north 30 degrees east. Smithsonite at the mine was of a brownish-white color, probably due to iron impurities owens enthusiastically reported this As 'the richest and best locality of these zinc ores that has yet been examined in this country.' he refers to veins of zinc ores sandwiched by 'well defined walls of rock, which may be the ore horizon, and says that it contains both the carbonate and the sulphuret of zinc.
Development: These notes derived from account taken from d.d. Owens report published in 1858, in little rock, ark. Pp. 55 and 151-55, called first report of a geological reconnoissance
Geology: Reference to other records for sites in this region will provide a view of typical features of these deposits.
