"This [prospect] is located in SW 1/4, SW 1/4, sec. 23, and consists of an open cut about 10 feet deep. It exposes a vertical vein about 6 inches wide cutting the Ste. Genevieve limestone and having a course about N. 40° E. The limestone is slightly brecciated, but the bulk of the vein stuff consists of purple fluorspar and white calcite, with minor amounts of galena and blende" (Bain, 1905).
The Baldwin (mine/prospect) later became a shaft mine and operated by an individual named R.F. Taylor (Weller et al., 1952). It is currently abandoned. Coordinates are provided by Nelson et al., (2016).
According to Weller et al., (1952), the deposit varied from 0 to 20 feet in width and was about 100 feet long.
