This is a large excavation in a, short, discordant projection from the top of the Palisades diabase intrusive. Such a physical configuration would suggest that mineralization might be abundant. Since the large majority of the heat released by a cooling intrusive sheet/sill, like the Palisades, escapes through the top of the intrusive one might expect vigorous convection of formation brine. One might also expect a significant amount of volatile accumulation and granophyre. Unfortunately none of this is the case. Consequently, secondary minerals at this locality are very uncommon.
