Discovered in 1897, the Slaty Rock mine, is a copper lode bearing 317 for >150m located on sections 35 and 36, Hundred of Cudlamudla. Subsequently worked in a shaft to 18m. The lode varied from a few cm to 1.5m wide. Production in 1897 was 195 kg of copper ore from 5.1 tonnes of ore, and in 1898, 483.4 kg of copper ore from 2 tonnes of ore. The mineralogy of the lode was calcite, chalcocite, malachite, and red copper oxide (cuprite). The host rock is the Tapley Hill Formation. On imagery a line of openings can be traced for ~250m along the line of lode which trends NW at its southern end then curves to be almost EW at the northern end. 3 lines of an IP and resistivity survey were completed in 1970 by Adelaide Mining and Exploration Company PL. Results determined a high background effect that was interpreted as due to widespread minor sulphide mineralisation. There was no follow up sampling.
