Located 2 km south of Hasbergen and about 10 km SW of Osnabrück.

First mentioned as a newly discovered silver quarry in 1189 in a letter from Emperor Frederick I (Barbarossa) to the bishops of Minden, Paderborn, and Osnabrück as "de argentifodina nuper inventa..."

After many fruitless efforts, mining ceased in the 13th century.

Attempts made in the 18th century turned out not to be economically viable.
