Köppen climate type:
Savage (1971) states the Riwaka farmland contains drusy quartz crystals, massive garnet, epidote, fuchsite, chalcopyrite, hematite, silver and zinc ores, scheelite, gravel sands with rutile, gold, and manganese. Pink marble is found at an old quarry. No further location details are provided.
The Riwaka pink marble (N267022194) is exposed in a small disused quarry near Foley Creek, North Branch, Riwaka valley, probably as a lens within schist of the Onekaka Schist Formation (Grindley 1980). The pink marble consists almost completely of dolomite. Most of the crystals are irregular in shape, but well-formed crystals are present along the edges of irregular cavities in the rock (Soong, 1992).
