The Leith Valley is an outer suburb of Dunedin. While it is hard to imagine now, the area in the late 1800's and early 1900's was an industrial area with tanneries, flour mills, saw mills, iron works, coal yards, manufacturing, brick makers, and at least four stone quarries.

As to which of the four this entry is referring to is open to speculation. The area is now covered by residential housing. The most well known quarry is Palmers, or the Woodhaugh Gardens. Palmer and Son Ltd purchased the quarry in 1932, with quarrying finishing in 1955. It was then converted into a public garden by the company in 1980 (although still owned by the company).

A heritage survey mentions a quarry opposite Davidson's sawmill, closed in the 1950's, for fear neighbouring houses were being damaged.

The only mention of aragonite was at The Glen Quarry. Burns in 1890 states: ' At the Glen Quarry in the Woodhaugh Valley beautiful zeolitic minerals are found, with crystals of calcite and aragonite, and good specimens of hyalite.'

It is possible the site is further up the valley than where it has been marked on Mindat, but details cannot be confirmed.
