The Electric Point was a large lead mine on top of Gladstone Mountain. It was named for the supposed abundance of lightning striking the outcrop of the deposit. The mine operated from 1901-1955 and produced a reported 30,711,000 lbs Pb, 10,000 lbs Zn, and 7,000 oz Ag.
The ore occurred in cylindrical deposits up to 800' deep and 150' in diameter called chimneys. Most of the ore was heavily oxidized into cerussite and limonite clay known as "sand spar". Solid galena boulders up to one ton were found in the oxidized material. The chimney deposits are generally regarded to have formed in fault breccia at the intersection of major faults. One notable feature of this deposit was a striking lack of zinc, which is common in most of the other lead bearing deposits in the region.
