A zinc mine in mineralized Powell Dolomite. Operated during WWI and again in the 1950's.


Alteration: Chert Fragments Decomposed. St. Joe Marble Hosts Cavern Filled W/Boone Chert Fragments.

Commodity: This site suggests primary deposition of smithsonite

Deposit: When he says the cut is filled with decomposed chert I suppose her means that the cut was made into a deposit of chert fragments. ; info.src : 1 pub lit sacharroidal sandstone is lacking at this site.

Development: About 20 tons of smithsonite were present on the dump in year 1900 As well As 3-4 tons of sphalerite bearing rock from the shaft.

Geology: Professor purdue suggests this was once a cavern whose roof of boone chert had fallen in, followed later by deposition of smithsonite and hydrozincite, no W associated with calcite and quartz. There has been no displacement of the st. Joe marble.
