A former surface and underground Mn mine located in the SE¼SW¼ sec. 11, T1N, R15E, about 5 miles by road NE of Globe, on federal land. Discovered 1954. Formerly part of a group of claims belonging to the Superior and Boston Mining Co. Owned by Mrs. E. A. Borge (1961).
Mineralization is an irregular ore body hosted in limestone. Manganese minerals occur along a fracture zone cutting beds of the Mescal Limestone. The ore zone is 91.44 meters long, 1.83 meters wide, strikes N60W, and dips 80NE. An associated rock unit is diabase.
Another manganiferous occurrence, probably on the adjoining Morlay claims, crops out about 700 feet NE of the Amster opencut. The fracture strikes N50E and dips steeply NW. It has an exposed length of, or about 100 feet and the more highly mineralized parts are 1 to 4 feet wide.
Workings are 27.43 meters long, 1.83 meters wide and 6.1 meters deep.
