Bescanó is located just after Anglès, on the way to Girona. It has a 1,250 meter large "water volcano" that dispersed some 7 million years ago tons of diverse materials on a 7 square kilometer area. A later lake was dryed out for agricultural purposes.
The Crosa volcano (partially in Aiguaviva, Bescanó, Sant Dalmai localities) located between Gironès and La Selva, is the volcano with the widest crater in the Iberian Peninsula and the largest in Europe (1,250 meters). Its exceptional size is due to the eruptive violence as a result of the presence of a large groundwater bag. Inside the main crater is a second crater, the result of a later eruption of half a million years. Its maximum depth is 74 meters, and the highest point is the hermitage of Sant Llop (225m). La Crosa volcano is a place of incomparable scenic beauty that has been declared a Protected Area of Natural Interest, it is a quiet and very pleasant area.
