A former underground Au-Ag-Cu occurrence/mine located on 3 patented claims (Sunset #1, Sunset #4 Fraction, & the Sunset #5), in sec. 12, T3S, R13E, 1.1 km (0.7 mile) ESE of Haleys Mountain, about 1 mile NNE of the Ray Mine, and about 1¾ miles SW of Scott Mountain. Produced 1933-1956. Past operators included Mr. William Gregory; A.E. Jones; Jones and R.V. Boggs; the Sunset Mining Co.; V.A. Gilbert; R.R. Leary, and W.O. Kay.
Mineralization is a tabular ore body hosted in Troy Quartzite. Regional structures are Pinal Schist striking WNW, and dipping 20SW. Some Mesozoic basalt porphyry (Gq 1021). The N-trending Broken Hill fault is on the west side of the claim group. The mineralization is probably related to Cretaceous-Paleozoic intrusions in the area, such as at the Ray Mine, 1 mile SW.
