The Hérival mine follows a little lead ore vein not far from the Hérival Priory. Workings probably date from the 15th century.

Note: This location is frequently misidentified with the "Bas-Hérival" mine (Vein No. 3) (https://www.mindat.org/loc-54695.html), where a lot of secondary Cu-Pb-Fe-As minerals are found.

Description: La vanadinite a été confirmée dans une analyse (N. MEISSER 2003) mais ne correspond pas à la forme cristalline assimilée par tous. Dans le gîte de Hérival ce n'est déjà pas de la mimetite orange, mais de la pyromorphite arsénicale qui forme ces cristaux au faciès bombé (de type Campyllite). La Vanadinite de ce gîte ressemble à une croûte orangée poudrée qui ressemble à de l'ocre argileuse. Vanadinite was confirmed in an analysis (N. MEISSER 2003) but does not correspond to the crystalline form assimilated by all. In the Hérival deposit, it is not already orange mimetite, but arsenical pyromorphite which forms these crystals with a domed facies (Campyllite type). The Vanadinite from this deposit resembles a powdery orange crust that resembles clay ocher.

Description: Vanadinite, very rare at Hérival, forms a powdery orange crust that resembles clay ocher. N. Meisser 2003 analysis after a C. Lheur specimen.
