An iron mine in magnetite ore located near Irondale (no longer on maps), SW of Port Oram, South of Wharton. Started as early as 1640. The ore vein averaged 7 feet thick, 90 to 150 feet in height and 1,800 feet long. Workings were 300 feet long x 100 feet deep by 1855; 600 feet long x 250 feet deep (1868). Produced 150,000 tons ore by 1868.
