The Bay State Fissure Mine is located approx. 1/2 mile south of the town of Phoenix. The company was organized in May, 1853 and work began shortly after. The major recorded production was between 1865 to 1867 when 399,115 pounds of copper were produced. By 1868, mining had ceased and the property was sold to the Phoenix Copper Company. Being a fissure mine, the minerals that can be expected to be found here include copper, silver, prehnite, and pumpellyite.
