An underground copper mine consisting of four shafts located near Allouez, just north of Calumet. The Allouez Mining Company was organized in 1859 and began exploration work on the Allouez Conglomerate Lode. The first shaft was not sunk until 1869 and produced the company's first copper. Shortly thereafter, a second shaft was sunk. A third shaft was sunk in 1871 and a fourth was begun shortly after that. During most of the later 1880s and early 1890s, the mine was leased on numerous occasions to tributors. The mine operated until 1893 without paying a single dividend to shareholders. The company briefly de-watered the mine in 1898 during a copper boom, but found no promising ground to reopen the mine. Because of this, the company shifted its focus to developing the Kearsarge Lode which ran across its property.

The mine rock piles were popular with collectors as many "different" minerals were found, including copper, silver, cuprite, malachite, and some nice chrysocolla.

Note: As of 11/2024, much of the pile has been removed for area construction projects, and the property is now private with no public access at this time.
