The Nahass Mine was first developed in 1853 to work property located along the Ontonagon River. The main vein worked was an amygdaloid approximately 50 feet wide with copper showing on the surface. Little is known of actual mining conducted as the Nahass Mine before 1864 when the Brooklyn Mining Company was organized and took over operations. Company records state the mine was not fully developed and ceased to operate after the end of the Civil War. As with most mines in this area, it is very difficult to locate.
