Ref.: The Iron Mines of New Jersey (1910), Bayley:377-378; NJ State Geol. Annual Rpts.: (1868):566; (1873):43; (1879):50; (1880):104; (1883):98; (1886):138. An iron mine in magnetite ore located about 1.5 miles SE of Succasunna. Started before 1868 and closed before 1873. Reopened 1876 & closed 1883. Reopened briefly in 1886 and finally abandoned 1890. Produced 22,400 tons of ore (1876-1880). Ore body was 3 feet (1 meter) wide + 5 ore shoots 10 - 25 feet high and 2 to 8 feet wide. Workings featured a pit 700 to 800 feet long by 100 feet deep by 1868; 5 slopes (deepest 735 feet.
