A former Pb-Ag-Au-Cu occurrence/mine located in sec. 33, T23N, R17W, G&SRM, 2 miles N of Stockton, on private land. Operated until 1909.

K. P. MINES.

The K. P. mine is located in the southern part of the basin on open ground at about 4,700 feet elevation. The mine is new. It is owned by Messrs. Kimberly and Potts, of Kingman. As the water level is at about 40 feet below the surface, the developments consist principally of shallow shafts and surface openings.

The country rock is the pre-Cambrian gneiss complex. The deposit forms a vein or lode about 65 feet in width, which dips about 75° NE, and is reported to have a horizontal extent of nearly 2 miles, many locations being made on it. The gangue or filling of the fissure consists essentially of crushed or brecciated vein quartz and crushed and altered coarse granitic quartz and feldspar. The croppings consist of similar material, locally silicified and stained reddish brown and black by iron and manganese oxides. The lode carries a width of about 7 feet of concentrating ore.

The ore is of low grade. It contains principally galena and is said to average about 60 per cent of lead. It contains also some gold, silver, and copper, the copper occurring as bornite and chalcopyrite.


Mineralization is a polymetallic deposit hosted in Neoproterozoic gneiss. The ore body dips 75NE at a width of 19.81 meters and a length of 3,218.6 meters. The mineralization is associated with a Late Cretaceous porphyry intrusion. Local rocks include Early Proterozoic granitic rocks.

Regional geologic features include Precambrian schistosity that strikes N30E. Veins, fissures and dikes strike NW to NNW regionally.
