[edit]Language tag use in names?
[edit]Hello there! I had a question regarding language templates and the names of people and cities, please. For example, I was looking at Andrei Tarkovsky's page and saw that next to his name in the lead was the Russia pronunciation - should his name in the lead then be
{{Lang|rus|Andrei Arsenyevich Tarkovsky}}
using the language template, because Template:Lang#Rationale, or should the name just be typed in English? I hope this made sense, and thank you for reading and answering if you can! Have a great day! HeyElliott (talk) 01:16, 25 November 2022 (UTC)

- Hello IP user. This Help Desk is used for topics related to Wikipedia, so if you need help with your game I would suggest you find a forum related to the game that you are playing. Do you have any questions related to Wikipedia? If so, I (and many other editors) would be happy to answer your question. Happy Editing (or playing your video game!) - Hello IP user, and I would go to WP:Village pump (idea lab) and put your idea there. If that works out, I would go to WP:Village pump (proposals) and propose your idea there. Helloheart (talk) 03:42, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
Ref errors
[edit]At History of Dedham, Massachusetts, 1900–1999 there are a couple ref errors that are absolutely boggling me. I can't figure out what I did wrong. Can anyone help? Thanks! -- Slugger O'Toole (talk) 05:55, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Slugger O'Toole. Try looking at Help:Cite errors/Cite error references no text for an explanation as to why you're seeing this error. Basically, it looks like you tried to use WP:REFNAME for one or more citations. When you format a citation using "Refname", the "[[:WP:CITEFOOT|ref" tag of at least one of the citations (usually the first one) needs to be fully formatted using the syntax
<ref name= NAME>followed by the rest of the citation. Then, if you want to cite the same source again, you only need to use the syntax<ref name= NAME />. My guess is that you either (1) forgot to format one of the citations as "ref name= NAME" or (2) you are using the incorrect "NAME" for the subsequent citations. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:23, 25 November 2022 (UTC) - After taking a closer look at this, the problem with those two citations was because the main defining citations were incorrectly closed with
<ref/>instead of</ref>so the software wasn't able to find the defining citation for the subsequent ones. I've fixed things and they should be OK now. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:35, 25 November 2022 (UTC)- Ah. Rookie mistake. Thanks for the help! -- Slugger O'Toole (talk) 14:08, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- Slugger O'Toole Don't feel bad at all. It's incredible how easy it is 1) to make that very mistake (or a hundred others like it), and 2) to miss it completely a dozen times over while rereading your edit character by character trying to figure out what's discombobulating your reference. help to use
[edit]I am a new member of Wikipedia. Now please help me understand how we use Wikipedia and how w we can edit articles. thanks Zahid7600 (talk) 06:55, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- One person per account, full stop. Wikipedia does not permit role accounts. First, are you capable of forgetting everything you know about that website, so that you can look for sources about it rather than work backwards from the finish line? —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 07:32, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- Start with WP:TUTORIAL. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:42, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Zahid7600 And then read WP:BACKWARD. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:16, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
French page: remuneration and sources notice
[edit]Hello! In this French page there are two red notices that I cannot seem to resolve: one is concerning disclosure of remuneration and another on the lack of sources. I have addressed both of these by disclosing in the Discussion page who is behind it (as I read in an instructions page from Wikipedia) and added more sources, yet the notices are still there. Could anyone please advice what I need to do? Thank you very much in advance! 31.156.181.218 (talk) 08:31, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- That is a question which we on the English Wikipedia can't answer. You'll need to ask at the French Wikipedia; perhaps start at fr:Aide:Accueil. - David Biddulph (talk) 08:44, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
Deletion of entry
[edit]Hello,
Is there a way to retrieve a deleted entry and make any changes necessary? SNForg (talk) 12:47, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- @SNForg I'm not sure what you mean. You have been working on Draft:Andreas Dracopoulos which is still there. If you want to see earlier edits to the draft, some content of which may not now be present, then just use the "View history" tab and click on the timestamp of the verison you are interested in, intending to copy/paste out what you need. If this is not what you meant, please be more specific. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:12, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- That draft has now (since the response above) been deleted as a copyright violation. Wikipedia takes copyright law seriously. Maproom (talk) 13:34, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- Specifically, we will not restore edits which were deleted as copyright violations. You need to rebuild from scratch. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:25, 25 November 2022 (UTC)

Links to TV series seasons are not working
[edit]In CHiPs#Episodes, the links to the seasons are not working: when I click on one of them, noting happens.
I've looked at similar table, as in The Dukes of Hazzard#Episodes and the links are working regularly. I can not see any difference, though, the wikicode is almost the same. Meridiana solare (talk) 13:11, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- No the wikicode is very different. You need to compare the "link*" parameters in List of CHiPs episodes with List of The Dukes of Hazzard episodes. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:26, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- Aren't they standardize? Is there any guideline?
- And how to fix it? Meridiana solare (talk) 13:42, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- The error is at List of CHiPs episodes#Series overview. The table uses | link1 = #Season 1 (1977–78) where it needs to also have the title of the article, so | link1 = List of CHiPs episodes#Season 1 (1977–78). Hope that helps. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:34, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- It's more complicated when the links should work well in both pages. I have fixed it. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:49, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
