Pumpellyite-(Mn2 + ) from the Ochiai Mine, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan

Introduction

Despite the wider compositional variation range of pumpellyite-julgoldite series minerals due to extensi¬ ve substitution in their octahedral cations including Al, Mg, Fe2+ and Fe3+, no member containing Mn2+ as the most dominant octahedral divalent cation has been known to date. The present description is for the preliminary report on the Mn2 +

dominant pumpellyite from a bedded 'manganese ore deposit of the Ochiai mine, Kohsai-cho, Nakakoma-gun, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. The mineral is named as pumpellyite -(Mn2+) after the nomenclature system of Passaglia and Gottardi (1973) and the mineral and name have been approved by the Commission on New Minerals and Mineral Names, I.M.A.
