During her time in the Legislature, Sandra focused on creating affordable housing, reducing costs while creating good paying jobs, and protecting families and our communities.
Sandra fought to protect seniors and veterans from rent increases and passed laws to stop surprise fees in rental agreements. She also led the efforts to cut red tape and modernize housing development to create more homes for Nevada families.
Sandra helped lead the efforts in Nevada to bring down the costs of prescription drugs and health insurance at the state level. When the costs of school meals were set to increase for students, Sandra passed legislation to make school meals free for all students.
Sandra’s hard work and leadership has been recognized locally and nationally - from her Emily’s List Rising Star nomination to being named a Rising Latina Star by the Latin Chamber of Commerce to being endorsed by unions, environmental groups and law enforcement.- Making housing more affordable has to top the list. Nearly everyone under 40 that I've talked to thinks they'll never be able to afford a home, and you can see how demoralizing that is. They want the opportunity to achieve the same American Dream their parents had - and it's a Dream that we as a country have sold to our people, so when it seems impossible to reach, it undermines faith in our economy, our culture, and our country. If we are able to restore the American Dream so that it is attainable to young professionals, that not only helps our economy, but it restores faith in the promise of our country.
- At the core of my campaign is lowering costs for working families, including fighting back against Trump’s attack on our healthcare, capping the cost of prescription drug prices, and expanding affordable housing. I am also focused on growing Nevada’s economy by creating good-paying jobs, strengthening tourism and small business development, and ensuring more Nevadans can achieve economic mobility. Education investment is another pillar, with an emphasis on strengthening public schools and expanding opportunity for students. Additionally, I plan to focus on public safety, particularly gun violence prevention so that Nevadans can go to school, concerts or grocery stores without the fear of being gunned down.
- From championing policies that raise wages, to expanding affordable housing access, to lowering costs for working families. My background in the housing and mortgage industry has shown me how fragile economic stability can be when wages don’t keep pace with rent or opportunity. That’s why I’ve supported legislation to strengthen workers’ rights, protect fair pay, and grow industries that create good-paying jobs right here in Nevada. Every Nevadan deserves the dignity of work and the dignity of a secure retirement so they can support a family, build wealth, and keep our communities strong.
