Name:
Named in 1917 by Austin F. Rogers in honor of Felix Cornu [December 26, 1882 Prague, Czech Republic - September 23, 1909 Leoben, Austria] assistant professor of mineralogy, petrography and geology of mineral deposits at Montanische Hochschule University, Leoben, Austria. Cornu is recognized as a founder of colloid chemistry and the mineral name was chosen in appreciation of his being one of the first mineralogists to make a clear distinction between crystalline and amorphous mineral species. Cornuite is an amorphous equivalent of chrysocolla. Cornu named the mineral species hibschite. Cornu's research on the hydration state of zeolites from the České středohoří Mountains resulted in the Reuss–Cornu Rule which correlates the hydration states of zeolites with descreasing temperature of crystallization.
Described as "Amorphous equivalent of chrysocolla."
