About Capped QuartzHide

Formula:
SiO2
Quartz crystals made of loosely connected or easily separable parts that correspond to different growth phases. This is caused by the deposition of thin continuous layers of, for example, clay minerals, on the crystal during growth. The typical result is a crystal tip that can be taken off of the crystal and that is shaped like a little cap.

ID requirements: A crystal with zones separated by inclusions, however dense they are, is not a capped quartz. To be called a capped quartz on mindat, the crystal has to show its "cap" detached. It is sufficient to show only the cap, if the cap shows an imprint of a crystal tip on its bottom side.
