Formula:
CaFe3+Fe2+2(Si2O7)O(OH)
Name:
In 1806 Le Lièvre gave the name of yenite to the mineral, later known as "ilvaite", in commemoration of the Battle of Jena, Germany (Sowerby, Exotic Mineralogy, 1811). This caused some controversy in mineralogical circles because of political issues and the name was abandoned. According to Hey (Also Dana 6th ed), it was changed to lieverit by A G Werner in 1812, while ilvaite was used for it by Steffens (1811), so the latter was given precedence.
