About BarkevikiteHide

An obsolete name for a dark amphibole originally described by Brøgger (1887, 1890) from the nepheline syenite pegmatites in the Langesundsfjord area = Larvik Plutonic Complex.

The composition of the black amphiboles in the Langesundsfjorden area, labelled as "barkevikite" in the litterature corresponds to several species within the range ferroedenite-hastingsite-magnesiohastingsite, depending on and varying from locality to locality.
"Barkevikite" from its "type locality", Barkevik area (probably Skudesundskjærene) in the eastern part of the Langesundsfjord, is ferro-edenite (Larsen 1995, Larsen 1998).
