Formula:
Fe6Mn
Crystal System:
Isometric
First Fe-Mn alloy mineral reported.
Reported as "the manganese analog of taenite".
As lamellar grains, up to 0.8 mm in length, in (1) eruptive breccia or (2) a high temperature exhalative product.
Electron microprobe results, wt.% (mean of 6 analytical points): Fe 83.91, Mn 13.01
(11.82-15.17), Cr 0.24, Si 0.73, total 97.90.
Opaque with metallic luster, white in reflected light, isotropic. Reflectance data also reported.
Note: V.A. Kovalenker suggests this phase is a Mn-bearing variety of taenite rather than its analogue.
