Name:
Named for Napoleon I (1769-1821), Emperor of France.
A local or informal name for an orbiculite, an orbicular variety of gabbro composed essentially of calcic plagioclase with hornblende, minor hypersthene (= enstatite) and quartz.
First reported from Corsica. Also called corsite because the stone was found in Corsica.
