An intermediate phase (synthetic) formed during kaolinite-to-mullite thermal transformation, e.g., in association with coal combustion. It is quite likely that this phase also exist in kaolinite thermal transformation paths in the natural environment (e.g., pyrometamorphic zones).
According to Querol et al. (1994), pseudomullite forms from from 'silicon spinel' at 950oC. It may also be formed from interaction of the latter with CaO, to give anorthite as a coexisting product. At 1000oC in transforms to mullite and quartz.
