An obsolete name for a porphyry with a fine grained felsic groundmass or a porphyritic felsite.

A term in lithology proposed by Vogelsang (1872) and used by him in a classification of the quartz porphyries into three divisions: granophyre, felsophyre, and vitrophyre, according as the groundmass is: phaneritic (to the naked eye, visibly crystalline-granular), aphanitic (fine grained or microcrystalline’, felsitic, as he used that term), or vitric (glassy, amorphous)
