Subophitic dolerite

Subophitic dolerite describes a texture in the igneous rock dolerite where larger plagioclase crystals (laths) are partially enclosed by smaller crystals of clinopyroxene (like augite), but the pyroxene isn't fully surrounding them like in true ophitic texture; it's an intermediate stage showing how magma cooled, often found in the middle of thick intrusions like dykes, indicating slower cooling than fine-grained margins but faster than coarse-grained cores, featuring common minerals like plagioclase, augite, hornblende, and sometimes olivine.
