From Feather ore.
Presently a poorly-characterized, questionable mineral on the IMA-CNMNC list of valid species.
The name is also used to refer to any 'feather ore', usually boulangerite, but sometimes jamesonite, zinkenite or even a rarer sulphosalt (e.g. owyheeite). It is a good idea to analyse any "plumosite". Jamesonite and zinkenite can be more brittle than boulangerite.
