Unique combination of elements. The only currently known organovanadium mineral. The second natural crystalline metalloporphyrin after abelsonite. More detailed description is a vanadyl deoxophylloerythroetioporphyrin (abelsonite is also a deoxophylloeryhtroetioporphyrin).
Extracted from a sample of oil-bearing shale. The crystals grown from chloroform occurred as prisms, up to 0.26 mm in length.
The crystal structure of the compounds is based on isocyclic 5-membered ring with V atom in its center; the V site has a distorted fourfold coordination. Structure analysis suggests the compound to be a derivative of chlorophyll. Porphyrin molecules in the crystal structure are in planar arrangement and nearly parallel to the XY plane.
UM1984-14-CH:ClNOV and abelsonite are not isostructural.
