Formula:
Ir-Fe-Pt-Rh-Ru-O-H ?
Colour:
dark grey (reflected light?)
Low totals are suggestible, according to Smith & Nickel (2007), of the presence of oxygen; calculation (Ł. K.) including oxygen alone shows metal-to-oxygen ratio from ~1:3 (analysis 1) to 1:4 (analysis 2), which would require very high oxidation states; assuming even the highest possible states does not balance the charge. Calculation assuming the phase to be of oxide-hydroxide type gives better results. However, recalculation as (Ir,Fe,...)O(OH) still leaves low totals. Thus, the phase is possibly also hydrated. If so, it might correspond to already database-present
'Unnamed (Ir Oxide-Hydroxide)'.
Discovered as an alteration product replacing (even completely) euhedral osmium inclusions in nuggets of Pt-Fe alloy from the Joubdo stream, Ethiopia. Compare 'UM1981-29-Te:BiRh' from the same site.
