Formula:
Fe3Si7
The phase "UM" name concerns material described from the Luobusa ophiolite, as subrounded grains, up to 0.5 mm, that may possess fritted margins.
The Fe3Si7 phase (probably the same) was much earlier described by Essene & Fisher (1986) as lath-like species intergrown with FeSi (naquite?), FeTiSi2 (possibly zangboite), and Unnamed (Ti Phosphide) within a metallic globule in glass of Winans Lake fulgurite.
Possibly the Si analogue of 'Unnamed (Fe phosphide-silicide I)'. One of a number of natural Fe-Si phases known; compare 'Unnamed (Fe silicide I)' and 'Unnamed (Fe silicide II)'.
Electron microprobe data (wt%):
Si 55.26
Fe 44.74
When normalized to 100 wt% it corresponds to Fe2.89Si7.11.
