Another example of intermediate-valence S-compound of a carbonate-hosted banded Zn-Pb sulphide deposit (Orzeł Biały mine, Upper Silesia, Poland). It has some Pb in composition. The above compounds include subsulphites (Unnamed (Fe Subsulphite)), sulphites (Unnamed (Fe Sulphite), Unnamed (Zn Sulphite)), pyrosulphites and thiosulphates ('UM1995-34-SO:Fe', Unnamed (Fe Thiosulphate II), Unnamed (Pb Thiosulphate)). There is also a Fe-Pb phase ('UM1995-35-SO:FePb'). These compounds are generally banded/radial/fibrous/spherulitic in form and have lowered reflectivity with growing sulphur valence. They are precursors for banded ore sulfides. Compare also Unnamed (Fe Oxysulphide).
The pyrosulphite occurs as banded matrix interdigitated with galena and pyrite. Oxygen excess in the compound is balanced by the presence of silica admixture.
The composition is unique and this is likely the only example of a pyrosulphite mineral currently known.
