Formula:
~Fe(S,As)O3
An iron sulphite found in carbonate-hosted Zn-Pb deposits of Poland and Belgium.
One of a few mixed/intermediate valence sulfur compounds of such deposits, that include subsulphites (see Unnamed (Fe Subsulphite)), sulphites (compare Unnamed (Zn Sulphite)), pyrosulphites (Unnamed (Fe Pyrosulphite)), sulphoxylanes (see Unnamed (Fe Sulphoxylane)), thiosulphates (compare 'UM1995-34-SO:Fe' and Unnamed (Fe Thiosulphate II)).
These compounds are generally banded/radial/fibrous/spherulitic in form and have lowered reflectivity with growing sulphur valence. Compare also Unnamed (Fe Oxysulphide).
The Fe sulphite occurs as crystals, that grow on the sulphate-subsulphite matrix.
Compare also albertiniite (the hydrated counterpart); scotlandite, gravegliaite, hannebachite and 'UM1995-35-SO:FePb'.
Synthetic FeSO3 is known.
