A synonym of Baryte
A nodular, concretionary, or round variety of barite, composed of radiating fibers; phosphorescent by itself or when calcined with charcoal.
It is a variety of barite found in nodular-fibrous or radial formations or concrections on the hills around Bologna (Emilia-Romagna) Italy, with the “argille scagliose” formation. After heating with reducing substances (as coal) it becomes phosphorescent (because of impurities but probably due to the formation of barium sulphide).
Originally reported from Monte Paderno near Bologna.
