A mafic-granulite consisting mainly (more than 50% vol.) of pyroxene (cpx and/or opx) and plagioclase. The modal content of pyroxene is larger than 30% vol. According to the Granulite Commission the total of mafic components should be higher than 30% vol. The original definition specifies orthopyroxene is essential, but the name may sometimes be used less precisely as a synonym of mafic-granulite.
